Characteristics of large autoclaves
The initial factor to assess when determining if sterilizers qualify as large autoclaves is their volume and high capacity — specifically, the amount of equipment, components, or food they can sterilize in a single cycle. Thus, the classification of an autoclave as ‘large’ hinges on its capability to handle substantial volumes at once.
Generally, an autoclave is considered to be large when its chamber size exceeds 60 liters, although they are usually considered as such if they exceed 90-100 liters. The substantial size of these units due to their chamber volume renders them impractical for installation in tight spaces. In addition, large capacity autoclaves have electrical and water installation requirements that can make their installation difficult or unfeasible.
Regarding the type of opening, large steam sterilizers can be classified as vertical or horizontal autoclaves. For high volume top loading autoclaves, accessing the bottom of the chamber tends to be more challenging. As for their placement, they are typically installed directly on the floor.
Furthermore, the items to be sterilized in these autoclaves often have significant volume and weight. To facilitate ease of use, it is advisable to employ a basket lifting crane. This necessitates that the facility must possess adequate space to conduct these operations comfortably.
A distinctive feature of large autoclaves is their sophisticated control system, designed to execute sterilization cycles both automatically and accurately, offering the flexibility to modify various parameters. Such advanced control systems are becoming increasingly indispensable in laboratories and businesses that manage a significant volume of sterilization loads.
Large capacity autoclaves of certified quality
Our offer of large steam sterilizers includes a wide variety of models, corresponding to the AES, AE-DRY, AE-B, TLV-S, TLV-FA, TLV-DUAL and TLV-PD Series.
These autoclaves are highly versatile, with certain models capable of sterilizing both solid and liquid materials, depending on the chosen cycle. This versatility is facilitated by the precise control of temperature, pressure, and duration, enabling the customization of the cycle to suit the specific needs of the materials being sterilized. Moreover, series such as the TLV-PD, AE-DRY, and AE-B incorporate vacuum drying features post-sterilization, which eliminate any remaining moisture, ensuring that sterilized items are dry and ready for immediate use or storage.
RAYPA’s extensive line of large autoclaves offers the option to include recording and tracking systems that adhere to FDA and GMP standards. This can encompass management software, ticket printers, and barcode scanners, enhancing the capability to effectively oversee and validate the autoclave’s sterilization processes. Such functionality is crucial in laboratory and industrial settings, where the utmost in quality assurance and item traceability is a non-negotiable requirement.
Trust in sterilization equipment is essential for conducting safe and successful experiments, as well as for upholding production quality in laboratories and workplace settings. That is why for over 45 years, all our large sterilizers have been designed and constructed at our facilities in Barcelona, reflecting our commitment to quality and our extensive experience.
